Geneticists are now using an efficient and inexpensive method of gene editing called CRISPR/Cas9. It has become routine to snip out an unwanted gene or insert a desirable gene. The day of the genetically engineered child is just about to dawn, as is the day for modifying or eliminating entire species such as mosquitoes. The US National Academy of Sciences is giving an entire year to study the ethical implications. What is the fuss? Why might this be important for the church to understand and assess?
